Bilawal: Bhutto or Zardari?

By Waliya Aijaz

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, a 32 year old individual, son of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto & Asif Ali Zardari whom people once thought of as most influential couple in the history of Pakistani politics. The young man whose only achievement is being the grandson of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto- the fact which he never forgets to remind the public to gain sympathy- completed his education from various parts of the world. Elementary being from Karachi Grammar School to Bachelors of Arts from the world’s Prestigious Oxford University. Despite being born in Karachi, he lived a major part of his life in United Kingdom which gave him nothing but the British accent.

After Benazir Bhutto was shot dead at a rally in Rawalpindi in 2007, Bilawal being the only heir to Pakistan Peoples Party was sworned as a chairman. At the young age of 19 he joined His Grandfather Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s party.

Bilawal’s family history is a matter of media’s limelight from the past 3 decades. From 2007 till today, Mr bilawal left no opportunity to gain sympathy from the public in Bhutto’s name. Fooling the innocent civilians in the name of his beloved mother to gather as many votes as possible to secure a seat in Pakistan’s National Assembly in 2018.

Sindh was called a home to Bhutto’s and Zardaris. This area including Thatta, Badin, Gharo remain underdeveloped during PPP’s reign. The people who always welcomed Bilawal and his party were baited every 5 years for the sake of votes, the people once living in the slumps of Karachi who were promised clean water, electricity and food left their souls. The lost hopes of people are no where to be found. But Mr. Bilawal don’t ever bother to have a look at the situation of his own people because of him being busy in criticising the current government while ignoring his own incompetence.

Despite being in politics for more than a decade Mr. Bilawal didn’t make any evident change in his own province and have failed to ensure quality education and healthcare to his people. However he has a plenty of time criticizing present government’s decisions, tweeting, mocking government’s educational policies despite the fact that majority of his own people don’t even have access to a school.

He calls himself a pakistani but when he was sworned in as a chairman, he barely speaked the national language, Urdu. He struggles saying basic Urdu words ,in a press conference he wrongly said his own party’s motto for which he remained a source of mockery for days. What vision or direction one can expect from a person who reads from a paper while addressing his own people. He has a habit of interchanging pronouns which acts as a trick in loosening people’s faith in him. The people don’t even take him seriously anymore. His legendary statements such as ‘Barish aata hai tw pani ata hai aur jab ziyada barish ata hai tab ziyada pani ata hai’ has made him a meme material for today’s generation and nothing more.
